Instructions

Here are two comparing fractions games.

In the first one, students roll dice, choose whether to use the outcome as a numerator or denominator to satisfy the given condition.

Students can continue rolling until they create a pair that works. Then, you may ask them to justify their conclusions by using a visual fraction model.

You may play the second game in different formats. Each student can play the game individually by rolling all four dice.

  • Roll a die.
  • Fill in one of the squares in the diagram by dragging the die.
  • Repeat this three times, and after each roll, fill in another square to make the statement true.

You may group students in pairs, and they can compete to create a bigger fraction by erasing the sign between the fractions. You may also use the game as a class tournament on the board. In this case;

  • The first player rolls a die and fills in one of the squares in the diagram by dragging the die.
  • The second player rolls a die and fills in one of the squares in the diagram by dragging the die.
  • The first player rolls the second die and drags it to the remaining box. The second player does the same.
  • The winner is the one who creates the larger fraction. (You may change the goal before the game starts as creating the smaller fraction or creating a fraction closest to 1/2 ...)
